Barber Students Will Get On The Job Training
Once you're deep into your coursework hours, you'll get on the job training at your school. The general public like to go to barber/hair styling schools to get their hair cut or done because it cost half the price then going to a regular barbershop or hair salon.
The general public that come in for a hair cut must sign a contract stating they're about to get their hair done by a student so if anything occurs, they can not hold the school accountable. Pretty much they're getting their hair cut at their own risk. But there are instructors standing by just in case a student needs help.
Also students can get on the job training at an actual barbershop and become a apprentice, meaning you do not have a license yet but getting training from other licensed barbers. A lot of barbers in training like this option because once they do get their Master Barber License they already have a barbershop to work at and may already have clientele they've build up during their training at the shop.
Once students completed their coursework hours, it's time to complete the test to get a state issued license. Once the student pass the test, they can apply for their state issued license and become employed at any barbershop.

Is It Really Necessary To Get A Barber's License?
In this YouTube Video, Alex C. Campbell explains the importance's of getting your Barber's License.
How To Get Clients
Once a student becomes a license barber, he has options of working at a barbershop, a unisex shop, own their own shop, etc. If you're hired at a barbershop you either pay the shop owner booth rent or commission. Some shop owners will work with you to build up your clientele before they raise your booth rent to regular price. A great barbershop to start working at is one with a lot of incoming traffic from off the streets and has good advertisement of their business.
Building up your clientele may take some time, but you'll build up a following if your good at what you do. If a customer received a good haircut, they'll more than likely come back and get a haircut from you again.
Other great ways to build up your clientele is to pass your business cards out to people, build a website and add pictures of your work, and also create a YouTube video of you showing others how to cut hair.
